Lama Ole Nydahl

Lama Ole has been one of the main transmission forces in bringing Buddhism to the West. He has founded more than 700 Diamond way Buddhism Centers, in 55 countries around the world. His special way of uniting a modern style with an ancestral wisdom has contributed to create the largest group of lay state students who practice the methods of the Diamond Way Buddhism in the West.

Lama Ole Nydahl was born in 1941 in Denmark. After his military service, he finished his philosophy career at the University of Copenhagen. Later he studied English and German in different countries. Later, he began to do his PhD on Aldous Huxley and soon became a European exponent of the culture of the 60s. In 1968, being in Nepal, on his honeymoon with Hannah, he met his first Buddhist teacher, Lopon Tsechu Rinpoche. In 1969, Rinpoche sent them to meet the Sixteenth Gyalwa Karmapa Rangjung Rigpe Dorje, the spiritual leader of the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. Ole and Hannah Nydahl became the first Western secular students of the Sixteenth Karmapa.

After completing three years of studies on Buddhist philosophy and intensive training in meditation, including the transmission of a unique practice of the Diamond Way Buddhism, called conscious death, or Phowa in Tibetan, he began teaching Buddhism in Europe at the request of the Sixteenth Karmapa.

Lama Ole has a unique ability to present the teachings of Diamond Way Buddhism in an understandable and useful way for people in the modern Western world. He has written books on the main Buddhist topicas that have been translated into several languages including Spanish

  • "Fearless Death" 2015
  • "Buddha & Love" 2008
  • "The Great Seal: Limitless Space and Joy" 2005

“My recipe is simple: tell people the necessity of finding something which can carry them through sickness, aging and death, and don't be afraid to give them a glimpse of the joy of life. Tell people that the mind is like space: open, clear and limitless, and talk about both way and the goal. ”

Lama Ole Nydahl

The Teachings of Mahamudra

Mahamudra in Sanskrit, Great Seal in English and Chag Chen in Tibetan refers to the set of most profound teachings of the Buddha. These teachings describe the space in which the mind recognizes itself and the duality becomes binding, in which everything is joy and in which subject, object and action are experienced as parts of the same whole.

In this course about the teachings of Mahamudra, Lama Ole Nydhal shares the prayer of aspiration for the realization of Mahamudra given in the fourteenth century by Rangjung Dorje, the Third Karmapa. In this prayer the various possibilities of the mind are shown so that we can share their experience

Lama Ole Nydahl received this transmission only His Holiness the Sixteenth Karmapa, maximum Mahamudra lineage holder . In this unique course, lama Ole shows us that our true essence is as clear and unlimited space, allowing us to open ourselves to our potential for joy, compassion and trust.

Lama Ole defines Mahamudra : "It is as uninterrupted experience space and unlimited joy. This is the essence of Mahamudra : experience everything as completely cool, new, light, bright, full of meaning in every moment ... All atoms vibrating with joy and kept together by love, all at the highest level of meaning and joy ... The Mahamudra is a state where we have no fear, in which we feel totally free from fear because we know that which is looking through our eyes and listening through our ears is space, is not a thing, it is not born and can not die, nobody put it together and therefore can not be separated ... This space in its true nature is indestructible and you can really trust it ... It's not a dead space or an empty hole ... it's full wealth of possibilities: all the things that mind can do, freshness, the many different qualities that appear and manifest as joy ... At this level, old age , sickness and death are as interesting as the youth, joy and love. Whether it is the form appearing of space or returning to it, in both cases we can see the quality of what the space is and has. In this state, one is gentle and kind because it can not separate his happiness of others.

The empowerments

Nedo Rinpoche will give initiations, Wang, which are Tantric empowerments, ceremonies to activate our Buddha-qualities, stimulate them to develop even further and plant "seeds" that sprout the potential of the mind.
Our buddhic qualities are the basic working materials that we all have, which can transform our body, speech and mind into those of a Buddha.

In this opportunity Rinpoche will give three empowerments in: Karma Pakshi, the second Karmapa and White Umbrella, Dukar.
